Diabetes can be a relatively easy disease to manage and control in some cases, and in others it can be a long and difficult road to management and control. In either case, however, it is really important to catch diabetes early before it has devastating effects on you and consequently your loved ones. If you suspect that you might have Diabetes and are showing any of the symptoms, ignoring it could be the worst thing you can do. You could be shortening your life by years and putting yourself at risk for secondary illnesses.

Symptoms

In order not to ignore your Diabetes and keep yourself safe and healthy, you should know the symptoms before you get into exercise, glucose meters, diabetic diets, diabetic recipes, and medications. Symptoms of type I Diabetes include unusual thirst, frequent urination, unusual weight loss, extreme hunger, and extreme fatigue or extreme irritability. For type II Diabetes, any of the previous symptoms count, plus blurred vision, frequent infections, tingling or numbness in the feet or hands, slow healing bruises or cuts, and repetitive skin, gum or bladder infections. If you are experience more than two of these symptoms, get to a doctor, just to be safe.

Secondary Illnesses

Ignoring your Diabetes is simply a recipe for disaster for many reasons. Not only will your blood glucose levels drop or spike without any way to manage it or tell what’s wrong, but secondary illnesses could occur as a result of letting the Diabetes run without treatment for too long. Secondary illnesses for long-term untreated Diabetes include shock, coma, loss of water, vascular collapse, kidney failure, and even death. Dealing with Diabetes, including the diabetic recipes, diabetic diet plans, exercise, glucose meter use, and medications can be scary, but not dealing with it can be even more disastrous.

Tools

There are several tools you can use to deal with and manage your Diabetes so that you can both “ignore it” in a sense and deal with it so that it doesn’t cause more problems than it has to. Glucose meters are a great way to keep track of and monitor your Diabetes, and they are an essential tool for diabetic control. Diabetic diet plans can be very effective when dealing with Diabetes, and include tasty yet healthy diabetic recipes to help you eat right to keep it under control. Finally, a good appropriate exercise regimen can be an invaluable tool for controlling Diabetes no matter which type you have.
