Battle of the Neuroses

I'm often grateful no one can hear what goes on inside my head.  The filter between my brain and my mouth is fairly porous but it does catch most of the really neurotic stuff.  Last Friday I had a lunch date.  I work from home, so my lunch dates usually have 4 legs and tail, therefore this was a big deal and I had been looking forward to it.  I scouted out the menu of the predetermined restaurant, noticed they didn't share nutrition info, so I found some good lower carb options and I was all set.  Until, I started

having anxiety about driving to the restaurant.  I hate to drive and if I listed all of my driving neurosis, you would wonder how I ever leave the house.  I emailed my date to see if he was still in the mood for that restaurant and he suggested we go to PF Chang's instead.  I LOVE PF CHANG'S.  But, Diabetes soooooo does NOT.  The following conversation took place in my head:

Nervous Diabetic Fiona (NDF):  I'm going to have to cancel, I don't think Chang's is a good idea, can you imagine what that would do our blood sugars?

NDF's Enabler:  No, no, don't cancel, you guys have rescheduled this twice, why don't you suggest a different restaurant?

NDF:  Oh, good thinking!!

Rational Fiona :  Are you fucking kidding me?  We love Chang's and you're going to ruin it for us?  Ummm...NO.  I refuse to allow you to make us look like "the food restricted diabetic." They have their nutrition info online.  Man up, make sure your pump cartridge is full, be prepared for combo bolus and temp basals, and say YES.  If you're still twitchy once we get to the restaurant, we can order something lower carb.  Meanwhile, suck it.  If you want something to be nervous about, I'm having Dan Dan noodles and fully intend to eat entire bowl.  Go be nervous about THAT.

What I find ironic is that I am perfectly comfortable letting my driving neuroses dictate where I eat lunch, but I'll be damned if I let Diabetes play a factor in the decision.
