A Day in the Life of my Diabetes - Training Day

Articles - Diabetes Articles
Monday, 20 December 2010 02:32
This is a record of all things diabetes in my day - Monday 20th December.

7.30am:
BG level - 9.0mmol-L

9.17am:
BG level - 8.3mmol-L

9.35am:
Insulin - basal rate reduction to 60% for 4hours
Exercise - Ran for 4.13hours off road.
CHO - I consumed 750ml of replace (camel pack), 6 x jet plane lollies, 1 x V drink & 1 x Powerbar Gel.

I ran in the Belmont Regional Park today. I ran to the Belmont Trig which is the highest point in Wellington's Belmont Regional Park. Its usually a beautiful place to run but today the weather was awful.

2.00pm:
BG level - 12.4mmol-L

(post run)
Insulin - 1.5units (correction factor - 1:2.5)

3.00pm:
CHO - 120grams
Insulin - 12 units (CHO factor - 1:10 after 12pm)

5.00pm:
BG level - 7.4mmol-L
CHO - 30grams
Insulin - 3 units (CHO factor - 1:10 after 12pm)

6.20pm:
CHO - 37.5grams
Insulin - 3.75 units (CHO factor - 1:10 after 12pm)

7.32pm:
BG level - 9.6mmol-L

9.00pm:
BG level - 3.5mmol-L HYPO ALERT
CHO - 61grams
Insulin - 4 units (CHO factor - 1:10 after 12pm - reduced due to hypo)

10.20pm:
BG level - 6.9mmol-L BED

So today I had 7 blood glucose tests, 5 insulins injections, treated 1 hypo and counted carbohydrates 4 times. My BG levels ranged from 3.5 to 12.4mmol-L. I injected 24.25units for the carbohydrates I ate. I exercised for 4.13hours but ended the run with 12.4mmol-L so I think I should have only reduced my basal rate to 70% or not had the last lot of CHO.
